NOPD federal consent decree could be winding down
NEW ORLEANS ( WGNO) — A new development emerged in the NOPD’s federal consent decree on Friday, Sept. 27. The City of New Orleans and the Department of Justice are reportedly asking a federal judge to end it. If approved by the judge, a 2-year “sustainment period” will begin once all of the police department’s problems have been addressed.

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The U.S. Department of Justice and the City of New Orleans have asked a federal judge to start the process of freeing the NOPD from court oversight and begin the final stages of the department’s consent decree.
Feds, city file joint motion to end NOPD consent decree
On Friday, the city of New Orleans and the United States Department of Justice jointly filed a motion asking a judge to lift that consent decree following a two-year sustainment period.
