( MENAFN - IANS) Kolkata, Sep 23 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Biden for the proposed joint-collaboration Semiconductor manufacturing unit in Kolkata which was finalised during the PM's tour to America.

CM Mamata Banerjee said that continuous deliberations coupled with successful promotion of the State’s capacity have led to the recent proposal for the setting up of a Global Capability Centre in Kolkata

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday assured her government's full support to the proposed investment in the semiconductor sector following the announcement of the country's first national security semiconductor fabrication plant through a transformative collaboration with the US.

The plant, the first of its kind in India, will reportedly produce chips for use in military hardware in both countries, as well as in critical telecommunication networks and electronics.

The US and India reached an agreement to work together on setting up a semiconductor fabrication plant in the South Asian nation, giving a boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to bolster manufacturing in the country.
