The House of Representatives struck down a stopgap bill backed by Speaker Mike Johnson on Wednesday, with over a dozen Republicans defying the chamber's leadership and voting against the measure.

Both Republicans and Democrats opposed the stopgap funding bill, which was tied to new rules requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote.

U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan is one of two Hoosier Democrats in Congress. He faces Republican Randy Niemeyer and Libertarian Dakotah Miskus in November.
