Congress is moving swiftly to fund federal agencies and avoid a government shutdown. The House and Senate are expected Wednesday to give approval to a bill that would fund the government into December and avoid a federal shutdown just weeks before the Nov.

House Speaker Mike Johnson is poised to seek Democratic help to pass his government funding plan after a conservative rebellion derailed his initial measure.

The announcement comes after the House voted 202-222 last week against a spending plan through the end of March and also included a GOP-backed provision that would have mandated proof of citizenship when registering to vote in a nod to Trump’s baseless claims that non-citizens voting in elections has led to fraudulent votes for Democrats.
